My day started at 5:30am yesterday, November 4. I had 4 polling locations I was covering and I began the day with rounds, checking that each location’s voting machines were working and had all the supplies they needed.
I’ve voted numerous times throughout my lifetime, and it wasn’t until yesterday that I realized how much effort goes into giving us this privilege. There was a presiding judge at each location plus about half a dozen other election workers. In addition there was a technician to keep the voting machines running. And then there was me, rounding to each location, checking on supplies and helping out where I could.
Polls closed last night at 7pm. Once we got the green light at 9pm, we had to turn in our spare equipment. I got out of there about 10:15pm. In total I worked almost a 17 hour shift. Feeling tired today, but glad to have been of service. We’ve got a run-off election planned for December 13th.
There is a lot of effort going into free and fair elections in this country. Based on what I saw yesterday, we have a LOT of good people in this country working hard to make sure that all registered voters are able to vote and have their votes counted. Thank a poll worker if you get a chance. They are good people.
